Bow is a district in east London, in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It is to the east of Globe Town and south west of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. It has its own tube station, Bow Road, which is connected to the District and Hammersmith & City lines. Bow is north of the A11 and sits to the west of the A12.

Bow was originally known as Stratford-atte-Bow. Bow refers to a bridge which was built over the River Lea there in the early 1100s. Over time the name was abbreviated to Bow to prevent confusion with Stratford. The bridge has been replaced multiple times and is now a multi-lane road.

One of Bow’s main landmarks is St Mary’s Church. It is also known as Bow Church, and now stands on a traffic island on Bow Road. Some parts of the church are older than others. The oldest parts date from 1311, and one of the newest is the top of the bell tower. This was rebuilt after it sustained bomb damage in World War II.

Bow has several monuments and statues. This includes a memorial to the former Labour leader George Lansbury. There is also a memorial clock dedicated to his daughter-in-law Minnie Lansbury, who was a former Poplar councillor. Outside Bow Church there is a statue of the former Prime Minister William Gladstone.

In the run up to the 2012 Olympic Games, which were held in Stratford, Bow went under extensive redevelopment. This mainly involved the replacement and improvement of council homes in the area.
