Bromley is an area in south east London, in the borough of Bromley. It is between Beckenham and Chislehurst, and to the north of Bromley Common. Bromley has a north and a south railway station, and is about 20 minutes away from Victoria Station.
The name Bromley was first recorded as Bromleag in 862. It was a small, rural village until the railway was built round the south west of the area in 1858. The arrival of the railway caused an increase in trade, and Bromley grew significantly in size. Today it is a popular location with London commuters due to its proximity to the city centre.
Bromley has a busy high street with a number of shops and restaurants. It also has Intu Bromley, which is a relatively large shopping centre. The area has a cinema, library and several theatres.
