Buckhurst Hill is an area in north east London, in the county of Essex. It is between Chingford and Chigwell, and north of Woodford. Buckhurst Hill has its own tube station and is on the Central line. It is west of the M11 and north of the North Circular Road. Buckhurst Hill is about 25 minutes from Liverpool Street Station and about 30 miles from Stansted Airport.
The name Buckhurst Hill was first recorded in 1135. It was originally a small hamlet in Epping Forest, on the stage coach route between London and Cambridge. Buckhurst Hill remained a relatively small settlement until the opening of Buckhurst Hill Station in 1856. At this time the population expanded rapidly, and over 500 new houses had been built in the area by 1871. Parts of Epping Forest were felled to make room for this expansion, until the Epping Forest Act 1878 was passed to prevent this.
Today, Buckhurst Hill is an affluent suburban area. It is known as part of the Essex golden triangle of wealthy places. It has been a filming location for the television show The Only Way is Essex, and also featured in the ITV1 series Essex Wives. It is home to Buckhurst Hill Cricket Club and Buckhurst Hill Football Club.
